    John Cornyn, R-Texas, now asks about same-sex marriage. He complains that the Supreme Court's decision in Obergefell conflicts with the sincere beliefs of some religious people, and he asks Jackson if she agrees. Jackson's response: “That is the nature of a right."

    These questions about Judge Jackson’s record as public defender only underscore how important it is to have a justice who has represented people who cannot afford counsel. Such representation is one of our core values. SCOTUS has not had such a justice since Thurgood Marshall.

    Morning questioning of Judge Jackson by Senate Judiciary Committee is about to conclude. Anyone else think her testimony has been absolutely flawless? She gets extra credit for her calm demeanor even under hostile questioning. That’s exactly judicial temperament we need. #SCOTUS

    There's an entire economy of arrests & held without charges; plea deals for much lesser crimes; low level drug arrests made in place of a worse crime; probation & parole; and the millions of dollars tied up in bail, bonds, & prison contracting that never makes the Hollywood cut.
